Welcome to Western House. We are a heritage-listed B&B accommodation provider in Kurow, South Canterbury. The property was established in 1861 and the current house dates from 1871.
It is comprised of locally milled Otiake stone (similar to the Oamaru limestone) and the property has its own historic water wheel. We have the Alps to Ocean cycleway directly across the road from us and we are on SH83, on the way to Omarama, Twizel, Tekapo, Mount Cook, and Queenstown.

‘Te Wepu - Intrepid Pod Retreats’ which is situated at French Farm, Banks Peninsula (just 1hr from Christchurch).

My husband and I operate our small family business called Welcome Rock. Located in the deep south on our high country farm, 45 minutes from Queenstown airport.
Welcome Rock is a cross country single track trail set in the high country. The trail has been built by hand (by my hubby Tom – it took him 2 years to build the trail with picks, shovels, and some very good volunteers). The trail is a 27km loop track suitable for mountain bikers and walkers.
We have two backcountry huts that guests can stay in overnight to extend their stay. Both huts have outdoor baths to soak in under the expansive night sky. We converted an old wool shed into a studio apartment down at the farm which has two outdoor baths next to each other.
We are fourth-generation farmers and Tom’s family has been here since 1911. The area is full of history, it is educational as well as recreational. An affordable, private, memorable kiwi experience.

We have an amazing Chef who either prepares 'Gourmet baskets' for our guests upon arrival or guests can enjoy their own private Chef for the evening if they wish! We also employ a wonderful cleaner and amazing Manager and all of our staff are local people whom we treasure immensely.
